Game Over Bowser

Here's one that's on display at Gallery 1988 in Santa Monica. It was done in ink and gouache on watercolor paper.

i love this. i love your style, and i love how it differs appropriately based on your excellent ideas between this and the Kid Icarus piece.

if i could just bring up something for discussion though, it is artists' use of giant watermarks. this is something i see a lot of people do, certainly here, and especially in this age of googling and being ripped off, so i completely understand why artists insist on this, and know all the benefits to doing so.

To me personally though, especially with these WONDERFUL pieces, giant watermarks are unbelievably distracting, and i feel take away from my own personal enjoyment, and potentially confuse the work.

the main reason, above any other, is because you have two GORGEOUS pieces about 8 bit video game art, and when i see such an incredibly noticeable 8 bit pattern/overtone, i was convinced it was part of the design! i started loving, appreciating, considering, interpreting, and enjoying your art based on what i thought was a design decision. your awesome pieces of art merit all of that! i thought you were integrating these watermark elements cleverly into the piece. it was only through enjoying all the amazing work on your blog that i realized it's on everything.

i think people who are going to enjoy it won't care. honestly, it doesn't really stop me from enjoying your work here. if it did, i wouldn't bother commenting how much i love your work, style, and ideas. i think people who are going to do wrong by you are going to do wrong and share it without telling you. other people will do right by you, support you and credit you, and in the mean time, you will make more amazing art that will get noticed as the snowball of your success rolls down the hill.

if every song that was downloaded illegally had a belching noise every 30 seconds, people would probably buy more songs from the artist themselves.

all i mean to say here is that your work is AWESOME, and it speaks for itself. there are ways to let people know this is your art under your legal usage, but, in some cases (not all cases), it unfairly detracts from the totally awesome work that has been done.
