Makin' a short in 2 days!!

Well the Grand Final for the 48h hour film comp is done and dusted and we placed 3rd overall in the whole country (New Zealand), which we're really stoked with! We were also the only animated film to make the finals. So when watching this remember it was made by 3 guys, in 2 straight days with no sleep at all...

Animation for Chef Ann / thelunchbox.org

Above is the result of my second collaborative project with Oscar Productions. This go around we created a short animation for Chef Ann and her website www.thelunchbox.org. Chef Ann's mission is to get healthy food into our school's lunchrooms across America, along with educating parents, teachers, and kids about the many dangers of a bad diet. This animation is also being circulated to raise awareness of the National School Lunch Act, which congress will be voting on sometime in the coming year. I am extremely proud to have produced all of the artwork for this animation, and I would like thank Ian and Pete at Oscar Productions, and Brent Williams of WMG/Black Spider.

I will be posting updates concerning any breaking news of the National School Lunch Act, so be sure to check back to my blog. Thanks again.

I Met The Walrus

My good friend Craig Parrillo recommended this amazing video merging a brief interview with John Lennon with some great animation behind it. The results are fantastic. Here's a brief description:

"In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan snuck into John Lennon's hotel room in Toronto and convinced him to do an interview. 38 years later, Levitan, director Josh Raskin and illustrator James Braithwaite have collaborated to create an animated short film using the original interview recording as the soundtrack. A spellbinding vessel for Lennon's boundless wit and timeless message, I Met the Walrus was nominated for the 2008 Academy Award for Animated Short."

Super Keyboard Cat Bros.

I've been a little slower with work the last few weeks, so I worked on a few personal projects. Ever since I first saw a Keyboard Cat video, I wanted to make one in my 8-bit style, with some sort of video game "fail" involved. I'm not really an animator, but I know some basic Flash, so here's what I came up with. Doctor Octoroc did the music.

Okay folks! Here is the promised film! It should work, sound and video are all there ... after trying way too many times.

For all of you who don't know- this is my senior thesis film for UARTS, completed on May 14. "completed" I should say. There are some mistakes, continuity errors, and etc that are in the process of being resolved so I can feel a mite bit better about the peice.

The film was hand done-"traditional" 2D- on 1's and 2's mostly, so roughly 5k is drawings i'll say. This piece was an awesome learning experience.
