This is for my Illustration class, due Tuesday, as in two days. I've been horendously sick from a flu shot I recieved Thursday (don't believe them, they make you insanely ILL.) but I gave it my best shot! I am happy with it, but I just wanted a quick crit on the colors and layout. I can't change much because I have a whole other character to do tommorrow, but any minor fixups on color and layout would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The value of the jacket is to close to the blood monster thing. He is also steping on it which is alittle akward for me personally. Do you want the hair of the dude to be the same as the monsters? The hand holding the scisors is alittle weird for me. It doesnt look natural enough. I feel as if the "HYDRA" should have the same hand drawn quality as the logo between the two portraits. Also you should seperate and center the heading HYDRA type (Others may disagree)
The choose of fonts are nice. Serif fonts work well and translate fast. For me personally, if I was designing a page using a sketch book like paper, I would have the paper show though alittle as if it were all drawn in. Also if I wanted to I would print out all the type in panels, cut out the paragraphs and tape them on the page as if you drew and pasted the details in a book. (Leave the tape showing) These little things push the design beyond, this is the character, this is the stuff, and this is the info on them. It connects the design elements of hand made quality stuff with this other element of pasting shit together and making it look right.
The drawing of your figures are always really good.

What great character design. Everything looks clean and flawless. That blood monster is pretty amazing looking. The only I'd do is maybe tighten up the logo and the frontal face close-up on the right. Very awesome stuff. Can't wait to see more like this.

Thanks so much guys! Fish! I was thinking the same thing about the monster. I'm gonna try and shade it a bit so that it make's it look like he';s stepping on it, and if not, I'll just pull up the body a bit (yey digital art). As for the type being taped on? GENIUS. I'm gonna see how I could go about doing that without having to make a billion prints due to my being poor.

I love the colors in this, did you do this all digitally? Just curious what your process is, since we're both interested (and seem to be obsessed with) character design. It's good that you included the little details, like a close-up of the scissors and wrist. Reminds me of a manual.
Thanks Dan! The project actually was for a sort of manual type design, like, a character page for a video game. My process is pretty simple, I just do my lineart on vellum with a blue pencil, and then scan it and mess with the colors digitally.
