Koni Sketches
Hey guys, as some of you know, I've been trudging through a sketch phase for this comic, Koni Waves for a little while now (a bit longer than I had wanted). In either case, it's a comic done by a group of guys I interned for when I was a junior at UArts. I've already allotted room in the designs for type and these are the four sketches I've done for him. It's for the front cover and was wondering what kind of thoughts you all might have to add. So here they are, hope you like em! Thanks.

From our convo, I'd have to say 2 & 3. And you should certainly do #1 regardless, the design in that one is strong.
it's kind of a tough call. i have to disagree with joe and say that 2 and 3 are right out. 1 lacks the dynamism that the other sketches have, but I don't think i like how separate the 4th sketch feels, like it's divided evenly in 3 parts that don't really interact, save for the lighting. maybe take the 4th and put the fighting scene in the foreground, and the girls drop back to where some of their figures are obscured by the fire? not sure.
Personally, I really like the 2nd one. The composition and flow of that one seem the best, and I could totally see that as a comic cover.
I'd say of these the 2nd one is the strongest, I think it works the best as a unified piece. However I have to say that I think this sort of cover with the many combined images to make a sort of overview of what you will find in the book is something I am not much of a fan of. You've done it wonderfully, but I think that one very stong image on its own (depending of course on what that image is) can be far more compelling and draw people in much more... it would have to be powerful and clever and work on many levels in order to pull it off of course but thats just how i feel about it. Reguardless of which one you do though from what I have seen of your stuff you will do a great job with it.
i'd say one, the second one has odd tangents, like the sword going through her head. and i dont like how the island and the sword create a little box that her head fits in the corner of. I like that in the first piece the figures are the focus of the composition- where in the second sketch, they are not.
i think the third is my favorite, because the two girls are interacting. those lights really pop.
hey all, thanks for the input
