i just saw this a couple minutes ago. it's really sad news to know that he's gone. his show at the philadelphia museum was an amazing tour of his life's work and it was inspiring to know that he was still working. not only was he part of an American art dynasty, but a local boy too.
Such a sad day indeed... I woke up to a text message telling me the news. I must say though, for being 91, and living the life that man had, if only we could be so lucky.
i'm so grateful too that i got to see that exhibit. you can't imagine how much really did go into every painting. he was an incredible observer and the ability to transfer that from the hands to the brush, along the quiet undercurrent of story and emotion in everything, made him one of the greatest American painters of all time. sad news
