Some of you may or may not know, but I am applying to grad school. Every 2 to 3 days I am posting 1-3 new pieces on my blog that are portfolio pieces for my application and are for my actual portfolio. I am working on 1-3 pieces a day at a time, in hopes to finish them the same day or a day and a half.
The piece above was a quick piece I started and finished today. Please give constructive criticism on any work under self-assigned #, because that stuff is going toward my portfolio and any small tweaks to improve stuff would be helpful. Major re-drawing might not be an option but it will be considered if time remains.
I am sending my package on the 13th and everything is due on the 15th.
Wish me luck!

first of all, good luck! i think the piece looks good. the only thing that bothers me a little is that tree is near-invisible from a distance. maybe darken it just a tiny bit.
because this seems much more about a strong concept (and the concept is strong), i'd try to minimize the unnecessary elements. Personally, I would get rid of the tree in the background, and lighten the yellow tint to increase the value contrast of the figure. if possible, i would try to improve the way the hat sits on the head of the figure. it's looking great though. good luck!
TIM - The only reason I have the tree is to act as a visual anchor, to help give the viewer get a sense of space since I have not using shadows to ground the figure I had to come up with an alternative, but I know what you mean. I'll tweak the Hat. All changes are being made on the 12th and 13th before I send it and re-load it on my blog.
Alex- Will do.
Keep em coming guys, but I have 3 other works on my blog.
Good luck on your submission, Fish, give em hell.
one of my favorite compositions of yours. the structure of the body is very solid.
Its lookin good, the thing about your post that struck me the most is that you said you are going to send it the day before its due, and thats a really bad idea. I am applying there also and I sent mine off satruday. They get so many applications and you don't want to be the last one to get it in. If you really want good feedback before you apply go and talk to Marshall Arisman, i had an appointment with him a while back and hes really helpful. Good luck
I am sending it on the 13th. I plan on calling them a few days afterword to make sure they get it. I talked to marshall last spring. He is a legend, and is the reason why I shifted in the direction I took today, which was to follow the direction I want to take.
I hope we both get it. That would be sick to learn from one another.
