Here's a personal piece I finished recently. It's an interior book illustration to go along with Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. It's a fantastic story about four sisters in the 1860's, and I'm beginning a series of paintings based upon it: one for each of the girls. This first one is Jo - a tomboyish character and a writer of dark stories, Alcott created Jo in her own image.
I really want to use this series to focus on creating a real "storybook" feeling in my work, and to focus on showing a figure in an environment in a way that suggests their character. Thanks for looking!

wow, i didn't even notice that cat at first! awesome. i really like the design and color scheme of this piece. the only thing thats bothering me a little are the arms. they seem a touch bulky to me.

Murderous: I agree, I did bulk up the arms a bit, perhaps too much. However, investigation into the fashions of 1860 led me to realize that dresses with bulky sleeves were all the rage back then, so it seemed like the right idea at the time.
