Stage Select: AirMan

Original screen shot

"Stage Select: Air Man"
5x5" oil on board

Hey everyone. I've been real busy since I finished the last piece but I absolutely had to get in on this next show! Here's my piece.. it's my version of Air Man's stage select icon from Mega Man 2.. I've been wanting to do a series of these, doing all 8 of the bosses on little 5x5 boards. I wanted to make it a bit more realistic and darker than the typical blue color, since there was no background to go off of, I thought a stormy sky would work perfectly. Some really great stuff showing up lately on the blog, I can't wait to see the wall at BNW this month! Anyway, hope you guys dig it :)

really just something so great about seeing something like this painted. It brings these fictional things so much closer to reality you know. I guess thats why I loved Marvel Masterpieces so much growing up. I know you had some fun doing this! You had me worried for a minute that you weren't gonna do anything. At first i pissed that it was only 5 by 5 but now I think that size works perfectly. Definitly do all of these. beautifully rendered, especially the scrathes and texture of the helmet, and the glass lenses.

this REALLY has me wishing that i saw your rendition of all of them. and anthony is dead on by saying it brings this closer to reality. amazing work man, i can't wait to see it in person!

this might be my favorite piece of the show so far. it's funny i was going to say the exact same thing as anthony about marvel masterpiece cards (do they still make them, i feel like that was like 15 years ago!)
if they ever decide to do a cgi megaman movie, i hope they hire you to paint all the concept art.

It's a sweet vignette, I especially like the little organic bits in the eyes, that's a cool touch. And I agree with Anthony, the tiny size is very cool.

Anthony- Yes! Marvel Masterpieces were amazing. I loved those. No worries, I couldn't let you be the only oil painter in the bunch showing off this month haha

tfk- Thanks, man! Yeah if I get to do more I'll be sure to post them up on the blog, it's really cool figuring out how to re-imagine them while still keeping to their fundamental characteristics.. next would be Metal Man I think..

Alex- thanks, man haha, yeah you were there to see the shameful block in stage

Jude- Man, thank you so much! If they ever made a MegaMan movie.. I would kill to do the concept work or at least the character designs! Would be so good..

Joe- Thanks, dude! Yea, like I mentioned earlier, I really hope to get the whole series of these guys.. would be so cool together!

Juanman- thanks for saying so, man! You're missing out by the way, one of the best games of all time, hands down.

Tim- Thanks for noticing that little detail! I like the idea of them being part organic but mostly robotic, gives them a bit more life instead of just a hunk of metal haha

Gogo- You and me both! I technically should've started with Metal Man.. huh ;)

Chris- Yeah, man, I hope you get a chance to see it at the show. I hope I get a chance to do more of these little portraits too!

Edges- I wanted Air Man to look really fierce and intense, so I'm glad it is coming off that way! Mine too, he had such a cool design in comparison to the some of the others.

Kim- Thanks for the compliment! Yeah I was considering doing Mega Man, but the bosses have such cool characteristics about them, I had to!

Fish- Thanks, man! Glad you dig it :D
