We are the robots...

"...We're functioning automatic,
and we are dancing mechanic!"

-Kraftwerk

These shiny happy little guys were done for a create-a-card set put out by Mudpuppy. When they contacted me to do this project and design a bunch of my own robots, i said "affirmative!"... that's robot speak for "yes". If anyone is interested in getting a set of these guys check out the Mudpuppy site.

When I was at camp...

"my favorite activity was always arts and crafts. Or, as we used to call it: arts and "farts" and crafts."

-Alan Shemper

This is piece for the "CAMP FIREWOOD - celebrating the 10th anniversary of wet hot american summer" art show at the G1988 Venice gallery. I chose to focus my piece on what i thought of as one of the funniest parts of the movie, the talent show.

One large pie with marshmallow and pepperoni...

This is my piece for the Autumn Society's Shell- Shock: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle art show & tribute. I went with incorporating the classic art of pizza box printing for my design since it was the meal of choice for the turtles...

Station!

This is my piece for the Autumn Society's 3B Show opening tonight at G1988 Venice, art inspired by the movies Back to the Future, Beetlejuice and Bill & Ted. This time I teamed up with fellow artists Scott Derby and Tom Whalen to each do one of three silkscreen "advertisement" posters based off the movies, i went with "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey", an underrated sequel that is equally as funny as the original.

We each picked a set size and colors so that they all would match, and labeled them as the (STD collection - heehee). Be sure to check out the other guys, Scott did "Back to the Future" and Tom took on "Beetlejuice"...

Going Ape!

Beware the beast Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death.

A commission i recently finished, had fun with this since "Planet of the Apes" is one of my all time favorite movies. Although General Ursus doesn't appear in the original film they wanted to include him in the piece, which is fine by me since he's awesome!
Also, anyone in the "Bean Town" area i'll be at the Boston Comic Con this weekend April 30th - May 1st in Artist Alley with fellow Autumn Society members Scott Derby & Tom Whalen

I am Oz, the Great and Terrible...

This is my piece for Gallery 1988's "Required Reading" show opening on Friday, I chose to do the classic "Wonderful Wizard of Oz' by L. Frank Baum. I always loved the book (much more than the movie) and the original illustrations by W.W. Denslow were always very inspiring. Prints of this will be available at the gallery and online after the show opens.

Also, anyone in the Pittsburgh area this weekend (APRIL 15th - 17th) i'll be at the Pittsburgh Comicon in Artist Alley with Scott Derby. If you're there swing on by and say 'ello!

I was working in the lab late one night...

This is part of a project i completed last year for Mudpuppy Press, a company that make puzzles, journals, diaries, educational games, toys, and stationery for children and the young at heart. This was part of their new playspace collection launched this spring. I was asked to design a Monster Mansion/Laboratory, which i had blast doing. You can check out the whole thing HERE and see all the other cool stuff Mudpuppy has.

Tales of Emergen-C

This is project i got hired to do for the company Emergen-C, a vitamin drink mix. They held a one day Facebook event called "Incredible Tales of Emergen-C!" where people wrote in exciting real life stories involving the product, posted them on their wall and then i was asked to illustrate one of the stories. Along with art they also did songs, videos and even a really cool playable video game.

When you're strange...

This is my contribution to the soon to be released Strange KIds Club anthology. I went with a parody of the original Garbage Pail Kids stickers, seemed to fit.

Here's a little info from there site on what Strange KIds Club is all about...

Strange Kid is that uninhibited inner child within each of us. He enjoys reliving classic episodes of Family Matters and Dinosaurs on Friday nights just as much as he does breaking out a tasty box of Count Chocula on Saturday morning while cuing up Thundercats and Masters of the Universe When not geeking out to 80s era nostalgia, Strange Kid prefers to succumb to endless hours of video games and monster movies.

I want her to aerobicize...

Wyatt: Why are we wearing bras on our heads?
Gary: Ceremonial.

Weird Science was one of my favorite movies growing up, i would watch it over and over... So when Gallery 1988 said they were doing a tribute show based off the movies of John Hughes i couldn't resist...

Where there?...ThereThere...

Here's a couple of t-shirt designs i did for therethere.com, a online t-shirt store that partners with local artists on tee designs. For some shirts, 10% of sales will be earmarked for a specific nonprofit. For all "city" shirts, 10% of sales will go to an organization doing work in that specific city. That way, when you buy a shirt to represent your home, the benefits go right back to where you live.

I represented Philly's Ben Franklin/Soft Pretzels & Fishtown, and Pittsburgh's "Squirrel Hill"...

Shirts are available now for purchase at therethere.com, 10% of the proceeds from the Fishtown shirt go towards New Kensington Community Development Corportation

...and, i'll form the head!

This is a piece i did for the just released Voltron: United and Drawn.
Here's a detailed description about the book...

5finity Productions, in association with Moonstone Books and World Events Productions, presents the first ever official art book based on the classic animated series Voltron: Defender of the Universe. An endearing blend of fantasy and mechanics, this legendary brand has fused itself into social and pop-culture history. To many genre fans, Voltron was the original transforming robotic action series and introduced an entire generation into the world of Japanese style animation. A mix of official brand history, original artwork, fan memories, celebrity testimonials, and more, this project will celebrate Voltron's influence on pop culture and beyond!

Froggy's Lament

Froggy takes one step at a time
The way that he moves has no reason or rhyme
He hops and jumps, dodges and ducks
Cars and buses, vans and trucks.

- Buckner & Garcia

This is my piece for the Gallery 1988 Multiplayer: limited edition posters inspired by video games show at their brand new space in Venice, CA. Check out the link to see a bunch of great art inspired by video games of old and new...

Let's all "Lapti Nek"!

The hit song by the hottest thing on Tatooine since the Sarlacc Pit ate chili...the Max Rebo Band!!! Apparently, the words "Lapti Nek" mean "Work it Out" in Huttesse. Too bad they replaced with "Jedi Rocks" in the Special Edition.

This my "Jim Flora" jazz album inspired tribute to band that died way too soon in that horrible Jabba Skiff explosion...let's hope they keep on Lapti Nek'ing in the afterlife...

Captain CAAAVVVEEEMMMAAANNN!!!

Did this for a brand new art blog called www.planet-pulp.com. Every month a bunch of artists will tackle a different theme, this month's challenge was to re-design a hero or villain. I thought i'd update one of Hanna-Barbera's classic superheros.
