New messes.

Here are a few new/old new personal pieces. They fit together, like a running narrative. I'll save that explanation for when the rest are done. All were done with my usual mix: acrylic, pencil, ink, crayon, colored pencil, accidental blood. You are excused.

TMNT: 4 & 5
Here's my 4th piece for my TMNT series, Donatello. I went with the blue for an electrical effect to subtly imply his affiliation with inventing stuff. I actually had this see-through computer panel in front of him with some tech programming type going on, but I was too torn with it and it didn't really look right so I scrapped it. If it wasn't so up close, I'd probably have kept it. Oh well ;)
I decided to go a bit different with Michelangelo, I based his design off of a painted turtle species. I liked the idea of him being somewhat different than his three brothers because his personality is a bit more outgoing and energetic. I think it fits him best. In a side story in Volume 2, it's revealed at an early age that Michelangelo was a talented artist. Without getting too literal with the painted turtle concept, I still enjoyed giving him a bit of a louder design than the other 3. Michelangelo was my first favorite when I was a kid.Thursday, May 19, 2011

Portrait series
Hey Everyone! So, this past month I was honored to be featured in a group portrait show called The People We Know at B2 in South Philadelphia. I wanted to say a big thank you to those of you who made it out to see the work. For those that couldn't, here they are. I did a series of portraits of good lady friends of mine, using flowers both as a decorative frame and as an understated, symbolic way of highlighting prominent features in each girl's face. Kira, with the long hair, uses wheat to emphasize the golden brown tones in her flowing locks. Jia has lovely full lips, so tulips were an obvious option. Cathleen has such striking eyes, and while hers are naturally brown I stretched reality a bit and made them a deep purplish blue to match the irises. And Amanda always has blushing rosy cheeks.
The concept was kinda corny, I know. But it looks pretty right? I'm happy with them. Hope you like them too :)

Okay so no groundbreaking creativity points on these, I know. I'm really bummed mine are so straight up and boring compared to every one's. I wasn't sure I was participating and by the time I got around to these the deadline loomed ever closer and with three to do I had to do some thing I knew I could handle. So I decided to round out my portfolio with some females, some thing I needed. I also thought 3G = 3gals could work. I wish I could be at this opening.
Thanks to Joe as always for networking, and thanks to every one posting, commenting, and sharing ideas and work.

Plastic Club New Members Show
Just a reminder that tomorrow is the opening for the Plastic Club New Members Show!
247 S. Camac Street, Philadelphia
Opening Reception
Sunday, January 4th
2 - 5 PM
JAN. 4 - JAN. 24TH
After a lot of considering and reconsidering of which pieces to hang I went with four with the same saturation, same dark vs. light feeling....portraits and doppelgangers is the overall idea.
a good friend of mine put it best..."a sort of progression from darkest to lightest - or maybe the stages of recovery - wild rage, revenge/protection, sadness, normalcy"
Hope to see you there!
