THE AGE OF REPTILES - VIDEO & CLOSING RECEPTION

Be sure to go check the closing reception to the Autumn Society's THE AGE OF REPTILES, tomorrow, FRIDAY, MARCH 18th, only @ PARADIGM GALLERY & STUDIO.  If you can't make it, be sure to check out the following video, put together by our awesome friend Isaac Ruth. A special thank-you to Anthony Pedro for putting this show together and to George Armenante for his DINO contribution! More details below!

ABOUT THE AGE OF REPTILES
"Two hundred and forty five million years ago, the Permian extinction event also known as “The Great Dying” took place. It was the greatest mass extinction in earth’s history. With seventy percent of all life wiped out, the stage was set for “The Age of Reptiles.” In this Mesozoic Era reptiles saw the greatest amount of development, these advances would help them become the undisputed rulers of the planet.

Slow moving plant eaters, some weighing in at eighty tons, thundered across plains and trampled forests. Looking on from the shadows, with longing, hungry eyes and bone crushing teeth lurked super killers, scanning the herds for signs of weakness. Some would abandon terrestrial life and take to the skies on wings of skin, or slither into water to conquer the unforgiving seas. Horns, crests, armor, and tails ending in clubs or spikes were all adapted for protection in a world where death came quickly and in many forms.

Sixty six million years ago, in the Southern Hemisphere of North America, a meteorite slams into earth at sixty thousand miles per hour, turning night into day. It unleashes the light of a thousand suns as it vaporizes. Hot mud, dust and boulders are thrown hundreds of miles; waves rise up thousands of feet high and race towards coastlines. Shockwaves cause earthquakes, the horizon glows red as forests and animals burn. Those who survive these horrors face starvation as clouds of dust choke out the sun’s life giving light. The earth is dark.

Dinosaurs had ruled every niche of earth’s ancient landscape for one hundred and fifty million years, eight hundred times that of man. Perhaps that is the reason we are so intrigued by them. Their fossilized remains remind us of what can happen tomorrow.

This February The Autumn Society and Paradigm Gallery team up to bring you “The Age of Reptiles.” A showing of art dedicated to the biggest, baddest, meanest animals ever to inhabit the earth. The Dinosaurs."

Age of Reptiles

Hey Autumn Society!

It's been a while since my last post, but that's only because I've been busier than ever before. Lots of stuff for the Bongo Zeptobrewery, and a handful of shows.

Notably, Anthony Pedro invited me to participate in the Age of Reptiles show at Paradigm Gallery recently. I'm finally getting around to posting my piece on here; process shots on my blog.

The opening had a fantastic turnout, and I'd like to thank everyone for coming to see it.
Oh yea, I will also have prints available at the closing reception. Full size, full color on super-thin rice paper

Pterosaurs in the Sky!

These critter are pterosaurs swarming over a swirling ocean! The screenprints were for "Age of Reptiles", which opened at at Paradigm Gallery next Friday, February 25 at 2020 South Street, Philadelphia. Pterosaurs are one of the most diverse dinosaurs, ranging in small to gigantic sizes, fur, beaks, and pretty much everything since they migrated far and wide. Deciding to go with a more graphic approach, I used the pterosaurs silhouette to create a pattern design.

Experimenting with colors was a crucial part of the process, enjoy!

Epoch: The Birth of a Pteranodon

Sculptor, George Armenante & Autumn Society Elder, Anthony Pedro created something very special for the Autumn Society's "THE AGE OF REPTILES" show. They brought a dinosaur back to life! No Dino DNA or African frogs were needed to create this epic creature. Visit Anthony's blog for more photos & details HERE!

Scutosaurus Meat Chart - By JP Flexner of NODIVISION

My contribution to the age of reptiles show is this chart detailing the retail meat break down of your average pareiasaur dinosaur, in this case the Scutosaurus... I would imagine the taste of dinosaur being a mix of alligator and buffalo...

I screen printed a short run of only 25 of these 2 color prints on 19"x25" Cougar ultra white 100lb cover stock... so come to the AGE OF REPTILES show this Friday at Paradigm and treat yourself to an archival limited edition print nerd boner!!

Ill have them up on my etsy page tomorrow morning as well for you out-of-townees (2/23/11)

THE AGE OF REPTILES (ANNOUNCEMENT)

2011 is going to be a monumental year for the Autumn Society.

We have so much planned and in progress, that you might not be able to keep up! That being said, we're starting the year in a BIG way. And what better way than with a DINOSAUR art show! No artist can resist drawing these guys! Since we were kids Dinosaurs have always been a key part to our imaginations.

Autumn Society Elder, Anthony Pedro has put together a massive show with some massive artists! Ever since Anthony and I were in art school, I always begged him to paint a Dinosaur series, due to his epic and painterly style. Now almost 4 years later, that day is almost upon us.

We're also working with PARADIGM Gallery (www.paradigm-gallery.com) for the first time, and from all the buzz & amazing art shows they've put together, we're very excited to be working with them. On that note we will also be presenting another art show with PARADIGM in October, but more on that later.

Since PARADIGM has limited space, we had to limit our number of artists in the show, but we do invite & encourage everyone to post & share your own depictions of these gigantic wonders here on the Autumn blog!

-Chogrin

Please read below for more details on this amazing show!
