Here are my two pieces for the upcoming old school video game themed art show at gallery1988 (Venice). The show opens Friday October 26th and runs for about a month.

The first is a four panel acrylic painting on wood. Each panel is 12" x 12". I actually did this piece a couple years ago with the hope that someday it would be a part of g1988's I am 8-bit shows. I'm glad I could finally dust it off and get it out of my basement.

The second piece is a print I just finished up on to go with my koopa toopa series. Its a three color, hand pulled screen print measuring 19" x 12". Both will be on sale through g1988's website at nineteeneightyeight.com

"Crane Wife" at Modern Eden Gallery

Hello all! I wanted to let you know about my latest work hanging at the very wonderful Moden Eden gallery in San Francisco, CA! I was lucky enough to be part of their latest group show, "Myth," and returned to a subject I find myself coming back to time and time again; the Japanese folktale The Crane Wife.
More info "behind the work" and purchase info here!
I didn't get to post about the opening reception back on July 14th, but luckily, there is a closing reception in conjunction with North Beach First Fridays on Friday, August 3, 2012.   The closing reception will be held at 403 Francisco Street from 6-9pm.

Is This Thing On?

Here's my submissions for this year's "Is This Thing On 2: The Weird Year" Show at Gallery1988 show in LA - HOSTED BY WEIRD AL YANKOVIC!!  I had . . . maybe too much fun on these guys.  I grew up on Bill Cosby records, and Peter Sellers has been a sort of hero for me since the first time I saw Casino Royale and had my mind blown.

This one is "Go-cart Championship of America" - 19 3/4" x 15 3/4" gouache on paper.

And this is "Man of a Thousand Mustaches", same size, gouache on paper.
detail - yup - all fake mustaches.

Dead Jim...

"Acrylic on wood"

Here's my piece for the 'Iconoclastic Dead' @ Guru Gallery, I'm really stoked to be a part of it with so many rad artists, and with the theme of the show there was only one person I could paint and that is probably my biggest influence...

3G Pieces: Victorian Style!

Here are my pieces for the upcoming 3G show at Gallery 1988!! I've been a huge fan of the shows and artists that G1988 represents, so I'm really psyched to be a part of this show with the Autumn Society.

These were super fun to make; I was very inspired by old Victorian portraits of children with their pets & dolls, and was thinking about the iconic elements of all three movies that would pair well with children/young adults.  And people who know my art know I love drawing/painting ladies and animals, so this was a way to marry the theme with my style.

I wanted to also make them very somber and ornate, like small Victorian cameos, hence the framing technique.

Hope you enjoy!! : D Looking forward to meeting everyone at the opening here in LA!!

finally...!

"title?!" watercolor, gouache 20.5 x 9"

Thanks to all y'all who gave me some great feedback the last time I posted this, when it was halfway finished. I got a little obsessive with this painting, but it's finally done. It was hard to get the lighting of the photo right since the paper's got some buckling (didn't I learn anything in school, like using tape?!) and I have yet to flatten it out. Anyways, on to the next thing!

frankie's worst nightmare

frankie's worst nightmare, 11"x14", acrylic/spraypaint

here's my contribution to the trick-art-treat show! last year, i went to a wedding on halloween where a group of us decided to be the universal monsters, but all dressed in formal attire for the special occasion. my halloween painting this year is of my boyfriend and i in our costumes last year. i love the way it came out, especially because the background is matte and the figures are more glossy. if any of you go and see it in person, i hope you notice the contrast as much as i do!

check out my blog to see our group's costumes that inspired my painting! happy halloween!

The Blue Bomber

My Mega-Man piece for the 8-Bit and Beyond show. This was fun. Done with Watercolor and Tempera.

Tetrisarina

Here's my piece for the "8-bit and beyond!" group show!

I love tetris, and have wanted to do a piece involving swarovski crystals with a tetris theme for a while... I thought it'd be cool to incorporate the tetris iconography with some Russian royalty and glam it up a bit!

Video Game Show

Hi! This is my first post-- My name's Kasey and I'm a disabled artist. I've been paralyzed for almost 9 years now and art has always been my most significant outlet and extremely therapeutic in dealing with it. Anyway, this is my submission for the Video Game Show (8 Bit and Beyond). "Pixelated Princess Of Revitalizing Fungi" It's my version of Princess Peach as a One-Eyed Girl (1EG), a series i've been focusing on lately. I'll be posting more 1EG's in the future.. Hope you all enjoy!
