INTRODUCING: AUTUMN SOCIETY MEXICO

It is with great pleasure and honor to announce the beginning of the Autumn Society Mexico. For starters, The Autumn Society's "THE ICONOCLASTIC DEAD" show was a big success in Mexico City! So much so, that we have signed on for several more shows to take place in Mexico City between 2012 & 2013!

At this point I'd like to thank several people for making this dream a reality. German Orozco for his leadership, friendship, the marimba, and for taking this show above and beyond! Jorsh Pena, for providing some stellar special guests and artists. Jorge Gutierrez, Rhode Montijo, and Alberto Cerriteno for sharing their wonderful art and accompanying us on the show. Guru Galeria y tienda for all the love and goods that they provided for the show (papel picado, t-shirts, postcards, ads, tequila, and all the rest!). Another big thank-you to Rosario Ruiz, Manuel Lugh, Romero Chagoyan, Bere & Bere, POGO, and all of the Hula Hula gang! Gracias a todos who came out that night!

More coming soon...

-My favorite narration and lines from "El Espinazo del Diablo"

Guillermo Del Toro is a passionate man and leader that has influenced me tremendously. As a person, with my work ethic, as a producer of different projects, and as an artist. This is my tribute to him in the "Dia de Muertos" fashion for the Autumn Society's THE ICONOCLASTIC DEAD show in Guru Gallery this Saturday, October 1st (Mexico City).

I will be flying out for the event, and am very excited to be part of our new and latest branch, Autumn Society Mexico (with German Orozco, Jorsh Pena, Rosario Ruiz, and Anita Mejia). Until we meet again and updates soon! "HASTA LA VICTORIA SIEMPRE!"

ICONOCLASTIC DEAD - SPECIAL GUEST (ALBERTO CERRITENO)

As you all know, we're about to hit Mexico City hard (in a good way) with the Autumn Society's "THE ICONOCLASTIC DEAD," with our second international show, this time in Mexico City. This show has been an absolute dream come true for me. To be surrounded by friends, fellow artists, and special guest artists that I respect and look up to. On that vein, it my pleasure to present to you another one of our very special guests, Alberto Cerriteno.

Here's a description of Alberto's piece, "El Catrín" from his blog

"My piece entitled "El Catrín" represents the namesake urban legend from a little old town in Guanajuato, Mexico called San Juan de Dios where locals claims to have seen the ghost of this elegant man who made suicide around the third decade of the 20th century. The story says he killed his wife and then regretted hanged himself and to these days you could see him walking around in a park of the same town looking for his lost love. Nowadays in Mexico the word "Catrín" is a synonym for an elegant and dressed up man."

A video compilation of some of Alberto's work

Luis Buñuel

Finally!! This is my piece for The Iconoclastic Dead Show in Mexico. This is Luis Buñuel, a spanish film director that made enormous contributions to Mexican cinema, it was him along with Salvador Dalí, who did "Un chien Andalou," the most epic surrealist film ever! This piece has lots of easter eggs for the fans like me. :)

Remember it opens this saturday at Guru Gallery Shop 6 pm!! And it's going to be A BLAST!!

Dead Jim...

"Acrylic on wood"

Here's my piece for the 'Iconoclastic Dead' @ Guru Gallery, I'm really stoked to be a part of it with so many rad artists, and with the theme of the show there was only one person I could paint and that is probably my biggest influence...

MONDAY FEATURE: ICONOCLASTIC DEAD - SPECIAL GUEST (RHODE MONTIJO)

One of the amazing things about being part of the Autumn Society is that it has allowed me to work with a lot of my heroes. Today, it is my pleasure to share with you the work of Rhode Montijo. Rhode created this tribute to Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel) for the upcoming ICONOCLASTIC DEAD show in Mexico City (October 1st @ Galeria GURU).

To me Rhode's work is whimsical and genuine. Some of Rhode's published works include his graphic novel Pablo's Inferno, and his children's books Cloudboy, and The Halloween Kid. Rhode is also one of the co-creators & directors of the Happy Tree Friends. Along with Jorge Gutierrez, Rhode has had a big influence on my work and I'm still pinching myself to see that he's a part of this show!

A special thank-you to Eric "The Gute" Gonzalez for introducing me to Rhode's work back in 2006.
