MARCH is for MINDBLASTS!

Hey ASOP peoples, long time no see...

It seems like I've been way out of the loop and have not posted in a dogs age.  But, I figured I might work around that and let you all know about something that's going down over the next few weeks.

It involves this fella.
MARCH!  Where the MINDBLAST IS MIGHTY!
Yep it's time for March MODOK Madness 2013!  Since 2008, the brilliant Brendan Tobin and, myself have been devoting every March to a month long tribute to our favorite mental organism.  It's a blog where we can showcase artwork submitted by anyone who loves this amazingly bizarre Jack Kirby creation.

Right now we're ONE WEEK into this years festivities and I remembered that I needed to invite anyone from the society here to send us a MODOK if the mood strikes you, or you could just go and check out the blog to see all the excellent art.
Just go to MARCH MODOK MADNESS!

If your interested in sharing a modok with us:
Just Email us your MODOK: (modokmarch at gmail) Images should be 72dpi. Feel free to include how you would like to be credited, any description you want included, and a link to your site.  We'll post um up right until April first.

Hope you dig,
GogoPedro

Vampire portrait!

HEY AUTUMN SOCIETY PEOPLES! Sorry, I've been away. Just wanted to post up and say hello.
Also there's a lot more art on the blog, if your interested in scoping it out.
BEERS&BEARS!
Most Vampires are just crazy about drinking blood.
This fella couldn't even sit through his portrait painting session without having a drink.
He'll remind be to stay thirsty and work hard on my image-making efforts...
Hope you dig, P.

ROTH!

Yesterday in the year 1932, Ed "Big Daddy" Roth was born in Beverly Hills, California. I'd watched a film about his life and Custom auto work a few months back and figured that making him a caricature study was a good idea... He has a fantastic face for drawing studies, very expressive.

The film Tales of the RAT FINK was great too. A 2006 release narrated by John Goodman with some fun editing and motion graphics work in it. I think you can watch still watch it online too...
So much inspiration in his work.

Hope you dig,
P

Mugshots from the Ghost Planet...

So I did this image for an Adult Swim themed show that opened at Gallery 1988 in Melrose California last night.. I'm still a big fan of Cartoon Planet and SGC2C, and I miss seeing episodes of the show... In particular I really miss hearing the voice acting... Also, I was a big fan of the way that the show was written and made by reusing old footage in interesting ways. If I get some time I'd sure like to do some other Space ghost related images this year...

Hope you dig.

Summoner Of Demons...

Haven't posted here in a while. So, I'll drop in with this image. This guy in the red robes is a dark summoner of demons, he wears a glowing crown of magic obsidian... I imagine he's conjuring up some nasty stuff for Halloween.

Hope you dig,

Dia De Los Mucha

Here's my contribution to the wall tonight for THE ICONOCLASTIC DEAD show in Mexico City! I'm exceedingly happy that I was given a chance to participate with all the other great artists in this event.

I've had Art Nouveau on the brain since a very early age... In fact the bathroom in my childhood home had (and still has) this fantastic Nouveau print wallpaper in it. Even before, I knew his name I KNEW I loved the work of ALPHONSE MUCHA. Something about the Graceful shapes, the colors, the LINEWORK!... I've been hooked ever since. For my image I tried for a Mucha inspired composition with a keyhole framing element. I'm incorporating autumn leaves, and bone motifs to, lend to a lot of the natural content that you'd find in Mucha's work. But, also I see an odd similarity in brilliant colors of the old dead leaves verses the faded hues of dried bones.

I'll close by thanking, Chogrin for bringing me onto the show. Gracias also to the Guru gallery and German for being very friendly in welcoming me. I hope this leads to more great shows in the future. I'll also thank my model Dayna for putting up with my shooting of some helpful photo reference.

Lastly, I'll thank Alphonse Mucha for being a constant source of inspiration and beauty for me to draw on and appreciate...

Hope you dig. P

P.S. I don't remember adding my website to this post. But, its cool... If you wanna see more current work, please stop on by my blog HERE!

8-Bit Champs: Pac-Man

"Dinner Bell at the Bottom of the Food Pyramid"

Here is my full submission to an 8-Bit Video games themed show in PARIS, FRANCE at FLAQ Gallery. This is the first international viewing of my artwork, and I'm really excited.

I made an image themed on PAC_MAN which explains the recent rash of PAC MAN here on the blog. I also tried to change up the type of image I was making. I'm pretty happy with the outcome and see myself making more 8-bit tribute images in the future just for my own entertainment.
Sadly, it wasn't on display for opening night due to some problem with postal papers and foreign Customs... DANG...
However on a happier note, I'm told that the work will be added to the show in when it clears customs... HELL YES!.

I'd like to end by thanking Thomas and Joe in coordination with the Autumn Society for making this event happen and for letting me be involved.. MERCI, and THANK YOU!

As always I hope you dig.

My Diet of PIZZA and TABLETOP ARCADE GAMES.

Just a teaser image... I'll post the whole thing here a bit closer to the show.

I'm slated to have this image up in the 8-Bit Champions show in France here in a week (provided it makes its trip across the atlantic). My earliest experiences with Mr. and Mrs. PacMan were at the local Pizza Hut growing up. Where I'd squeeze in a few games between the slices and soda during family social outings... I remember they had a Tabletop unit, and I recall being pretty enamored with how it looked and helped create a head to head play style if you happened to be sitting across from your younger brother.
It certainly is a classic game, with many great tributes to it already in this most excellent show. I'm humbled to be in the presence of so many other great artists putting out such great 8-Bit tributes... I only hope I measure up. This image has gotten my mind working at brewing up some new image ideas for the future...

Hope you dig.

RED SKULL REMEMBERANCE

Oddly enough I posted some artwork with Captain America, on this very day exactly two years ago. That very same image had a RED SKULL Drawing in it too. Scope it out HERE. It was my very first project with THE AUTUMN SOCIETY OF PHILADELPHIA. Figured I'd post this in tribute to that day. Super skribbly line work on a NOTEPAD (uncommon sketch surface for me. Like the deformation of his face...Might visit it again for when the movie releases in a few weeks...looking forward to HUGO's portrayal of this character.

Hope you dig..

PIZZA TIME_ Bonus Box Art...

I was pretty pressed for time, while working out my TMNT show artwork.. But, I made a little time to knock out an image for the Pizza boxes that where sold at the show... I drew Rocksteady for this project and worked through a few variations before coming to a finished product. Attached you should find one of my rough earlier studies (below), and an attached sample of the art that was in the pizza box (above)..

Hope you dig...

Master Splinter, a radical rat in Action!

Here's some quick color on another TMNT sketch I passed over for that recent show...
I drew Splinter quite a bit and found myself really interested in the character. I see that he might be kinda dull at an initial glance, But when you start to consider that he trained ALL of the turtles. You get this clear picture that he has the ability to throw down and be a total bad ass, he just chooses not to and this makes him a great sage type character.

So here's a snippet of Splinter throwing a wicked Karate chop...
Hope you dig.
