hey guys. most of you probably have no idea who i am. i was in joe and eamon's class. i used to post on here all the time. please, don't look at whatever site joe has posted under my name. it's all old crap.
anyway, the reason i'm posting now: i went to this really great puppet show thing tonight, put on every year at the rotunda by puppet uprising (for those of you who don't know who they are, check them out sometime if you get the chance. they do some really cool things). during intermission, they had community announcements, and one of the things that was brought up was the casino they're planning to build over the gallery on market street. maybe not many of you have heard about this. they're keeping it relatively quiet for obvious reasons. i think this is something that artists should be paying attention to, since it will greatly affect this wonderful artists' community that we have all worked so hard to become part of in this city. i'm sure we could all think of a way to make a statement, and get our opinions heard (if you have one), and just bring awareness to this issue, either separately, or as a whole. i don't know about you folks, but this is not what i thought was going to happen when i voted for mayor nutter, and am greatly disappointed. for more info on it, you can visit www.casinofreephila.org, or just do a google search. there are a few different groups in the city trying to work together to stop this.
and um.. since this is an art blog, i suppose i will post two quick things that i did before i started spending all my free time making paper bag puppet christmas presents.
i will try to post more in the future. you're all doing great stuff!

first of all, your work is looking really nice! you're really improving, i think.
and yeah, the casino is bullshit and i'd like to do what i can to let the city know. hopefully more people start getting outraged soon
this is the first i've heard of the casino right in the MIDDLE of the city and it's troubling news. if we're to look at other city's who boast their gambling business, i'm sure we'd see a proportional rise in dead hookers and violent crime. does philadelphia really need to sink into a deeper sink hole? painting it gold won't make it any better. thanks for the heads up.
These are awesome Maris! Welcome back!
