SVEN HOEK!

I have been pretty damn ill the last two weeks or so but seem to be on the mend now! To celebrate I have been working on this image slowly over the last few days. It is for Gallery 27 and their 20 Years of Nickelodeon show. 

These poses of Ren are from the famous Sven Hoek episode, where Ren comes home to find his house trashed. It has one of the greatest character animation scenes ever, where Ren goes 'insane' at Stimpy and cousin Sven. This image contains just a few of Rens expressions during this short sequence.

DEATH FROM ABOVE & MORE

A pair of pieces to show to you today. First up is a print I did for Gallery 27's current show, "This Will Increase Your X" The theme is a clever spin on the usual pop/video game theme with pieces inspired by video game power up! My print is based on the blue shells of death from the MarioKart series.

It's the 3 color print and is about 11"x15.5" in size. The show opened last Friday and will be up for about a month. Visit gallery27chicago.com for more info.

Next print is for the upcoming Crazy 4 Cult show in NYC. That's right, gallery 1988 has taken their show on the road and brought their signature event to the east coast. Opening reception is August 9th from 6-9pm at 64 Gansevoort St, NY, NY 10014. Show runs for about a month. My piece is inspired by "Little Shop of Horrors" and the various store posters that were in the window of Mushnik's throughout the movie. For more info visit nineteeneightyeight.com

Here is my piece for Gallery27's (of Chicago) currant show "The American Hero". And really, who's more American than Steven Colbert?! The show runs for about a month and features all kind of heroes both real and fictional. 

This piece is a four color, hand pulled screen print and is an edition of 40.

"Gonzo Reincarnate"

My submission to the Patriotism themed art show at Chicago’s Gallery 27 - “Gonzo Reincarnate” 11”x14” Hunter S. Thompson if he were reincarnated as an American Bald Eagle complete with his signature tinted glasses, cigarette holder, Hawaiian shirt an American flag draped around him, holding a hand gun. I thought a Ralph Steadman-esque Colorado background (Hunter S. Thompson’s resting place) would complete the image. Opening July 7th, the original and signed/numbered prints will be available at the gallery.

This IS an Adventure

I was recently asked to contribute at Gallery 27, a new chicago gallery in the artistic Halsted area. What really sold me, was that Gallery 27's first show was "Futura", a Wes Anderson-themed (whose work I prize as favorites). So I present "This is an Adventure".

This is an early sketch for an idea I passed on. I want to thank Gallery 27 for an opportunity to have my FIRST show in Chicago!
