THE ICONOCLASTIC DEAD: Mary Blair

Here's my piece for

I chose Mary Blair, because she was such an amazingly talented female artist who worked in animation! I am sure I am one of many women (and men!) working in animation today who look up to her in more ways than one

8 Bit Calavera!

Sorry I wasn't able to take a better pic of my NES cartridge, but this was taken seconds before packing and one merciful FedEx employee away from shipping.

There are some amazing contributions for the 8bit calavera show!! I'm thrilled guys.

I personally found painting the cartridge a painful, yet interesting task I really enjoyed it.

Calavera submission

This is my submission for the 8 bit calavera show. "La Catrina Hermosa"-(The Pretty Catrina Doll), in tribute to Lola Glaudini. Materials: Nintendo Top Gun cartridge, Acrylic paint, gold leaf.

La Colaboraćion

"In Mexico the first and second of November belong to the dead. According to popular belief, the deceased have divine permission to visit friends and relatives on earth, and to share the pleasures of the living." - Chloe Sayer, Mexico: The Day of the Dead: An Anthology

"La Colaboraćion", Pen and Ink, Photoshop

This is my submission for the Dia de los Muertos Show. It's a self-portrait with my Uncle Mike, who was a great artist and art teacher, and who was probably the person most responsible for making wee little Jay B. think that an artist was a really cool thing to be. He loved Halloween and he used to make my brother and I Halloween cards decorated with Roger-Dean-meets-Tim-Burton pumpkin landscape type imagery (I know, right? Even on the envelopes! )
He was smart and brave and wickedly sarcastic.
He was thoughtful and generous to a fault.
He'd love this.

That's him there with my boy.
