Mucha Calavera!
8-Bit Calavera!
This is my piece for the "8-Bit Calaveral". It's an honor to
be apart of this show, had a blast working on this project.
Thank you.
8 Bit Calavera!
Sorry I wasn't able to take a better pic of my NES cartridge, but this was taken seconds before packing and one merciful FedEx employee away from shipping. There are some amazing contributions for the 8bit calavera show!! I'm thrilled guys.
I personally found painting the cartridge a painful, yet interesting task I really enjoyed it.

Australopithicus afarensis is known as the earliest known true hominid on the path to Homo Sapians (us). Only found on the continent of Africa 2.9 - 3.6 MYA.
In keeping true to the theme of Dia de los Muertos, I felt it was fitting to honor this long gone ancestor of ours. For without its struggle for survival would we be here today?
They had ape sized brains, large jaws and teeth. Due to the changing landscape of Africa, Australopithicus was forced down from the trees in search of food. They lived in social groups for protection. Scavenging meat may have sparked brain growth and set us on the long path to humanity.
Only a portion of the skull is pictured on my cartridge. It is after the fossil discovered by J.T. Robinson, in Sterkfontein, South Africa in 1949. The same goes for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Nintendo is supremely important in the evolution of video games. Would video games be where they are today with out this revolutionary system?

8-Bit Calavera
Here is my 8-Bit Calavera. I totally dig the Mario universe of characters and cool worlds and have been wanting to do an illustration with them for awhile now. I also dig skulls so this was double the fun. There are some really fine looking pieces being posted around here!
8-BIT CALAVERA by Nick Jennings
The Autumn Society proudly presents an exclusive "calavera" by the fantastic, Nick Jennings, for our upcoming "8-BIT Calavera" installation at GROUND KONTROL (Classic Arcade) in Portland, Oregon.

i had very, very limited time for this, but it was fun and i like the outcome... despite it looking like a chubby, goofy skeleton. love everyone else's skulls!

8-Bit Calavera
This is my piece for the 8-Bit Calavera show. I tried to loosely tie into the death theme by thinking about what happens to patients in Dr. Mario if you lose a round. Do they die? Just stay sick? ...Or does Dr. Mario even have any patients? I think the plumber's legal ability to practice medicine has been in question ever since the game debuted. At any rate, Dr. Mario is one of my favorites so I decided to draw the virus characters from the game and display them by cutting a special skull-shaped mat for the front of the cartridge.
Here's the digital artwork of the viruses for a better look:

"Skully Girl" - was once "Double Dribble." The entries posted here are looking awesome!
