Fables and Fairy Tales Show
The two prints I did for Acidfree's gallery show, Fables and Fairy Tales. I chose The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Little Red Riding Hood. They'll be available for purchase starting today around 12:15pm EST.
Tink
Here's the second piece I did for Acidfree Gallery's Fables and Fairytales show. I originally used it as an entry for a fairytale themed pinup contest, but I was bested by a very nice Cinderella illustration. I made a slightly new version for inclusion in this show, since I hastily made the original during a particularly busy holiday season a few years ago.
Prints of this and my Little Red Riding Hood piece are for sale here!

"North by Northwest Passage" for Alfred Hitchcock Show, "Suspense and Gallows Humor"
"North by Northwest Passage"
22" x 22" Gouache on paper
I've loved "North by Northwest" for a since the first time I saw it - the visuals, the music, the tiny razor gags, but most of all, the urban/rural scene hopping, from New York, to Chicago, to South Dakota. So - I thought I'd throw together a sort of scenic chart of all the actual locations in the movie - the only fictional one being the Northwest Airlines terminal, which no longer exists and I couldn't find reference for (but for "North by Northwest", I figured I'd take a little liberty). Also not included are the 1212 Michgan Ave Auction house and the hospital in Rapid City, as they were shot on soundstage in Hollywood. Even with that, it was a bit of a beast. Lots of research, lots of windows . . . The cars are also accurate from the initial 57 Skoda 440 cab to the '51 White Freightliner the plane crashes into, to the '52 Ford Customline Cary Grant rescues the girl in. I took color from the footage to get some of that "technicolor" feel, and blatantly ripped off Saul Bass' opening credit arrows to show the action.
Anywho - the show opens at the Gallery1988 Venice location on April 13th!

Famine's Shadow
This winter I was contacted by horror writer Rachel Deering (Anathema) to do work on a graphic novel. That is still in the works, but in the meantime, I did a short story for a future anthology called Monstrology. Rachel wrote a great 12 page script for me, and being the fan of short stories that I am, I gladly tried my hand at it...

Hope you guys dig it!
"MICKEY JORDAN"
Here is my first attempt at cut out work, titled "Mickey Jordan". I've been wanting to do something cut out for a while and I thought this floating hands idea would be perfect start with. The hands are hand drawn and coloured using paint markers on 1/4 inch board.
I've already planned my next cut out piece which i should be able to start working on in the next couple of weeks…oh and its TMNT inspired :)

Gallery1988: "Is this thing on? 2: The Weird Year"
"Awesome Possum"
11x14" Pencil, white charcoal and pastel on paper
Hey guys, just wanted to show you my submission to Gallery 1988's upcoming show that opens this Friday, "Is this thing on? 2: The Weird Year" The show is being hosted by Weird Al! Pretty crazy, I'm honored to be a part of this show and from what I've been hearing, the pieces at this one are pretty damn fantastic. Hope you guys dig my Louis CK piece, he's a brilliant comedian and his jokes are just so damn good. I had so much material to choose from, but of course, I had to go with one of my favorites.

ROTH!
Yesterday in the year 1932, Ed "Big Daddy" Roth was born in Beverly Hills, California. I'd watched a film about his life and Custom auto work a few months back and figured that making him a caricature study was a good idea... He has a fantastic face for drawing studies, very expressive.
The film Tales of the RAT FINK was great too. A 2006 release narrated by John Goodman with some fun editing and motion graphics work in it. I think you can watch still watch it online too...
So much inspiration in his work.
Hope you dig,
P

Is This Thing On?
Here's my submissions for this year's "Is This Thing On 2: The Weird Year" Show at Gallery1988 show in LA - HOSTED BY WEIRD AL YANKOVIC!! I had . . . maybe too much fun on these guys. I grew up on Bill Cosby records, and Peter Sellers has been a sort of hero for me since the first time I saw Casino Royale and had my mind blown.
This one is "Go-cart Championship of America" - 19 3/4" x 15 3/4" gouache on paper.

And this is "Man of a Thousand Mustaches", same size, gouache on paper.
detail - yup - all fake mustaches.

Flight of the Giraffe
Here is a piece I did for a baby shower gift. Aside from a few small things I like the end result.
Definitely a tad to cute for me but it works for what it is. Let me know what you think ?
