Last Night was the hanging and set-up for one of the biggest shows we've ever put together, Shell-Shock! The amount and quality of work for this show is astonishing and has left us truly "shell shocked." A special thank-you to Mike Jackson for helping out yesterday as well. We can't wait for the premiere tomorrow! Check out some more pictures below, plus a sneak peek of the exclusive item we will have available only at the show tomorrow! Cowabunga dudes!

TMNT - From Sketch to Scratch

Brave New Worlds? TMNT? - COWABUNGA!!! When I heard of this show I jumped at the opportunity to produce a new, fresh piece for the show.

I focused my turtles on the original Kevin Eastman/Peter Laird's version. I began with my usual technique by drawing the sketch with my left hand (seen on left sketch). Once I had everything in place after countless erasing - I traced and cleaned up the lines with my right hand onto scracthboard beginning the scratch process. (seen on the right)

Next I will be preparing for colors - I know the originals did not have color but the covers did :)

The Cubeecraft show!

If you are unfamiliar with Cubeecraft I'll give you a little background: Cubees are paper toys that you print and assemble yourself, and unlike most other papercraft models they require no glue or tape. They are the creation of Christopher Beaumont who runs Cubeecraft.com, where you can download hundreds of them for free. I've designed a number of these guys over the last few years and even had my Ernie Cubee featured in papercraft art books.

Chris has a Cubeecraft show coming up this Friday at a venue that should be very familiar to all Autumn Society members and fans: Brave New Worlds in Philly! I'm very excited to reveal my contribution to the show, Cubees of my original characters Oly and Ted; a twenty-something redhead and her shoulder demon pal!

Kits to make Oly and Ted and other exclusive Cubees will be on sale at the show, and of course there will be plenty more Cubees on display by Chris and the other contributing artists.

The reception is this friday, May 6th at the Old City location of Brave New Worlds. Chris will be on hand signing copies of his officially licensed Batman Cubee book, so be sure to stop by!

You can find more about the event here.

PLAYTIME! Recap & Photos

Come on in . . .
The show was a success! I want to personally thank all the artists that contributed to the show. This was my first time as curator and everyone involved was positive the entire time for the charity. Thank you again. We had a great variety of work and subject matter as always within the autumn society. Many set their contribution to 100% and we had A LOT of toy donations. I was happy to meet members in person: Phil, Drew, Tim, Kasey, Matt (Hepler and Welsh), Mark, and Alex. You all did an outstanding job and I want to thank you for making the time to contribute your work to such a good cause. I hope the show will inspire more members to participate next year when we have "PLAYTIME Strikes Back!"

THIS FRIDAY! It's PLAYTIME!

Poster Art by Peter Wonsowski / Design by Mat Kerfren
Ladies & Gentlemen of the Autumn Society,

It is my great pleasure to announce that we have one more show in store for you this year, just in time for the holidays! A special thank-you to Mat Kerfren for putting this all together!

PLAYTIME
The Autumn Society is proud to present, PLAYTIME, it’s first charity art show!
Toys bring children joy, spark imaginations and inspire creativity. Help others in the Philadelphia area so that less fortunate children can still have the joy of a new toy this holiday season. What was your first toy? Your favorite? What amazing adventures did you go on with your action figures? What distant planets did you explore with your spaceship?
The Autumn Society will illustrate their visions of childhood favorites - somewhere between plastic molding & imagination.

There will be a donation box on site for new, unwrapped toys for our local Philadelphia Chapter Toys for Tots. And a portion of the proceeds will go to Toys for Tots nationally. Join us this December on First Friday for the art, the nostalgia, and the gift of charity.
