mondo: paul

here's my latest limited edition print for mondotees, a poster for the upcoming simon pegg/nick frost sci-fi comedy, paul!

i'm pretty excited about this one, as it's officially licensed through universal studios and will debut at the US premiere of paul at the SXSW festival next week!

it was a challenging assignment in that i haven't seen the film yet and had to rely internet research to pull the look of the characters together. at any rate, nick frost tweeted me that he digs it, so i'm pretty stoked.

poster specs:
• 4 color screenprint on 100# cougar natural stock
• size: 18" x 24"
• limited edition of 225

sale info:
• date: sun, mar 13
• where: SXSW festival / paramount theatre / austin, TX
• if there are any posters left over from the premiere they'll be available at mondotees

shaun of the dead poster

here's my zombified entry for gallery 1988's annual crazy 4 cult show! i've been SO excited to reveal this one, and even more so now that i've seen the limited edition run of 3 color screenprints. D&L screenprinting has knocked it out of the park again.

i'm eagerly waiting to see all of the artists' renditions of their favorite cult movies. this show rocks every year and i'm honored to be a part of it.

zombie bomp pinup

here's my contribution to "zombie bomb" a kick-ass anthology published by terminal press and art directed by evil geniuses rich woodall and adam miller. the book will feature over 50 writers and artists joining forces to bring you the baddest bunch of zombie stories ever unearthed. it's in full color and it'll drop in april 2010 at the boston comicon.

oh, and why a russian soldier zombie for my contribution?

why the hell not?

four horsemen poster

here's my contribution to gallery 1988's upcoming poster show, "the greatest moments in sports history". the event is co-hosted by the awesome OMG posters and features a killer lineup of artists/designers and printmakers paying homage to their favorite sports teams/stars/moments throughout ages.

when i was invited to participate, it didn't take me long to decide to illustrate my beloved notre dame's famous four horsemen backfield. the print itself is a bit of a big deal to me, as it's my first silkscreened poster. the poster is 18" x 24" and is limited to an edition of 40. you'll have to see it in person to appreciate the quality of the job, but take my word that D&L screenprinting literally knocked it outta the park. can't wait to work with them again.

voltron poster

the guy that i created the green lantern corps, silverhawks,
iron man corps and optimus prime commissions for (among others) asked me to cook up my biggest most detailed piece ever for him. the subject matter?: voltron. measuring a whopping 28" x 56", and taking the better part of 6 weeks to complete, i think this fit the bill.

it was a happy day when the final mounted and laminated print arrived
safely at his house. cheers, UPS!

Dragon's Lair Poster

Another month, another awesome group theme from The Autumn society of Philadelphia! For August's "8-bit and beyond" show, I chose to illustrate my take on Dragon's Lair, the most gorgeous (and simultaneously frustrating) game of the 1980's. I had a chance to work out the sketches for this piece on my trip to LA last week, and i think the finished piece has retained some of that sun drenched 80's west coast vibe.

"Fly with U.S." poster

here's a poster that i did for j.s. lewis, author of the grey griffins series of books. a while back, i created this pinup for inclusion in his forthcoming sketchbook, "the mysterious journal of j.s. lewis". shorty thereafter, he asked me to create a WWII style propaganda poster featuring a squadron of jetpack-fitted U.S. infantrymen.

here's the cool part: copies of this poster will be available for purchase from j.s. at the 2009 san diego comicon! he'll be at the komikwerks booth (#2648, right near marvel and boom!)...stop by and pick one up!

timbermech v0.9

i've submitted my original timbermech v0.9 toy design (created a few years ago entirely out of wood) to patch together, an on-demand vinyl toy company that rates entries based on viewer voting and then creates limited edition runs of the most popular designs.

why am i telling you this? 'cause i'd be pleased as punch if everyone who has an account at patch together (or would care to register for one) would stop by, check out my design and vote for it. it'd truly be a thrill to see one of my designs come to life in vinyl!

thanks for any support you throw my way!

80's action cartoon villains

here's my entry for the 80's pop show. man, i love the 80's...especially all of the amazin' cartoons of that era that brainwashed the kids of my generation into buying boatloads of plastic action figures. and judging by the looks of my home office nowadays, that brainwashing doesn't deprogram with time.

silverhawks commission

wings of silver, nerves of steel... silverhawks!
partly metal, partly real... silverhawks!
soaring through the highway of the heavens in their flight,
silverhawks, a rainbow in the night!

re: "partly metal, partly real"...what? metal's not real?

unlike transformers, gi joe, thundercats and masters of the universe,
this was one of those 80's cartoons (along with bravestarr) that was
not part of my regular television diet as a kid. not that i didn't like
it, it was just slightly off of my radar somehow. still, i cannot deny
the awesomeness of those character designs...or that theme song.
