G is for Gizmo!
The latest in my ABC series...
So if your air conditioner goes on the fritz or your washing machine blows up or your video recorder conks out. Before you call the repairman, turn on all the lights, check all the closets and cupboards, look under all the beds. 'Cause you never can tell there just might be a gremlin in your house."

gremlins commission
so here's the backstory on this one:
• i originally designed a gremlins poster for inclusion in gallery 1988's 3G show this past fall.
• john louie, the actor who played the young boy whose grandfather refused to sell the mogwai at the beginning of gremlins, saw it and dug it.
• since the posters were sold out at the gallery, he contacted me asking if he could purchase one of my artist proofs, which i agreed to.
• john received said artist proof and subsequently got the idea to commission me to create a companion piece to the poster. he wanted it to feature him as a young boy, the mogwai, and his grandfather as well as references to his family (the chess pieces) and his chinese name (on the cabinet in front of the grandfather).
• i loved the idea and took the job.
• this is the result.

Happy Turkey Day!
Mark it zero!!! Thought this was an appropriate post for today since a "Turkey" is a bowling term when one gets 3 strikes in a row. Anywho, did this piece as commission for a big fan of the "Big Lebowski". A great, great film, one of my favs.
Also, Gallery 1988 is having a Black Friday sale tomorrow 11/26, it's 30% off original artwork and 20% off prints including a second edition of my sold out 3G show prints in a spiffy new color scheme. Click the link to check all of my prints they'll have available...G1988/Dave Perillo Prints

Comics Issue, in the can!

The Citypaper's Comics Issue goes to the stands this week, so may I be the first to say how awesome it was to see a few Autumn Society Gremlins in the submission pile. This year we definitely received the finest quality and variety of submissions, and it should be a fairly good issue. In any case, heres a promo cartoon I did a few weeks back.
Be sure to check out more of my crap here

THE NERDIST MENTIONS 3G (Feat. Paul Scheer)
This is a bit old, but still rad!!! Chris Stewart just informed me that the 3G Show got mentioned on the popular Nerdist Podcast, Episode 38, featuring Paul Scheer! Paul mentions the show at 28:56, then later at 31:56. They also mention Autumn Society members Dave Perillo & Tom Whalen. Click on the picture to listen!

3G festivity..
So, I just got back from a short trip back to my hometown near Detroit, MI and I've found quite a rush of press and love for the three G show....Pretty awesome!...
If you where at the show I hope you had an awesome west coast evening. But, if you're like me you didn't make it and don't have too many ways to know the who's who of art in the show....So here are my artworks in case you missed the L.A. art Bonanza...
Hope you dig, Comments always appreciated....

3G Show: 4th Poster
Poster by Brandon Schaefer (www.seekandspeak.com)
Another amazing 3G Show poster for the upcoming Autumn Society & Gallery 1988 epic! The poster was done by the simple & genius designer Brandon Schaefer! Next FRIDAY!!! 3G! 3G! 3G!
The Morning After
I think the mom is so bad ass... No questions asked, she just goes in the kitchen and lays waste to the gremlins in there. So anyway this is finally my last piece for the 3G show. Have a good one folks!
3G: CMYK Collection (by Chogrin)
These were tough to do...not by execution, but by idea. I came up with 3 different sets of ideas and ultimately this is the route I decided to go. All three of these movies represent a very special time in my life. They all have adventure, comedy, warmth, and some form of weird creature / monster. Watching these movies was like eating a good piece of candy, so I wanted them to be bright and represent that sweetness and pop. I also wanted them to compliment each other, so I used Black as the base and then Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow for the rest. Putting together and participating in this show has been quite an amazing and unforgettable experience. Can't wait to be consumed by the amazing art and nostalgia this Friday night!
All 3 are 12" x 11" mounted on wood

3G+1G=4G
Feeling restricted by the limitations of ASOP's 3G Show, I was inspired by yet another mid-eighties hero, Nigel Tufnel, to go beyond the norm and break through into uncharted territory (G-wise). That's right- FOUR Gs! Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Goonies…..and Goya!
Each of the drawings are based on an etching by the super-great Spanish artist Francisco Goya (above). Well, the one is based on a painting, and it turns out that after much debate and x-ray diagnostics, he may not have even been the one that painted it, but hey.
My Gs go up to 4.
The variety of great work and ideas I've seen on the blog ought to produce a pretty spectacular show. Thanks much to Joe for including the elderly in such an exuberant event. Buena suerte.
