Some Marios

For the show. I'm still working on Bowser. Yeah he's in a different style, but i like him.
Oh, and if you think that Luigi is doing something dirty to that star, he isn't. get your mind out of the gutter.

PUNCHED OUT!

I've been listening to Dr. Octoroc and know this show is gonna burn the roof down with nerdy goodness. This is my piece dedicated to the original version of the game Punch Out with that lovable ol' Mike Tyson.

Waka waka waka waka waka....

Here's the second piece, paying tribute to one of the infamous ghosts from Pac-man....

Old School Ink...

Just finished two of a series of 3 (Frogger isn't done yet...) of video game related tattoo flash for the upcoming 8-Bit show. Much thanks to Montygog Perillo for feeding me some great ideas...

Ring Study

5"x7" oil on panel

Hey guys, just posting a little ring painting I did up the other day. Wanted to do something out of the ordinary. I've never worked with black before so this was different for me.

Sidenote: Loving the video game show pieces that have been surfacing these past few weeks, I'll post my AirMan as soon as I can.

Custom T-Shirt Design

So I just made this t-shirt for fun the other day. This was my first experience with fabric markers which turned out to be really fun to work with. This was kind of a gift for my sister so I had her model it. The image is a lady surround by flowers with a flying bee in talk bubble I'm happy with the results. I will definitely be making more tees now.

8-Bit & Beyond Poster (1 of 3)

I just finished up the poster for the 8-Bit & Beyond art show! Sorry about the bum resolution, Flickr! is being a douche today. However, it is my understanding that prints of the poster will be available at the show in 11x17 size, so be sure to pick one up there!

8 Bit & Beyond: Earthworm Jim

I kicked around a few ideas, but found myself liking the idea of doing an Earthworm Jim homage. Here's a post baked sculpey ETW head. More "in progress" shots to come...

No More Bullying (preview)

Poor nerd turtles have finally gathered
to call upon their Ninja cousins,
and put a stop to the abuse by the Italian plumbers.
(luckily they were just a few sewers above to hear their cry for help).

*I have 3 versions of Mario on this picture.
you guys help me decide, place your opinion and vote.

8-Bit + Beyond: Contra! **Updated**

New Version
Old Version

Just finished up my contribution for the upcoming show... i had many ideas but in the end i went with my childhood favorite video game... Contra! Maybe i subconsciously loved it cause it was kind of like Predator in video game form, maybe? Any thoughts, comments, suggestions? And if anyone was curious, the Japanese writing that runs vertically actually says "Kontora"; which is the direct translation from Japan of the word Contra. The other group of characters says "Consider yourself a hero" which is a line from the game after you beat it. Welp, that's it!

**Updated**
I decided to go back and tweak the design a little bit. I changed the color of the helicopters, added the side scroller shot on the bottom as well as 'The Code' by popular demand!

Frog, and More Monsters

Doing a little more fooling around here, I always loved the game Chrono Trigger, and especially Frog among that great cast of characters. Just trying some different things with color and such, I won't say this is the finish, but it's on the way. Also a colored version of those monsters I posted a bit ago, and a black and white character Illustration of one of them. Enjoy!

Video Game Show

Hi! This is my first post-- My name's Kasey and I'm a disabled artist. I've been paralyzed for almost 9 years now and art has always been my most significant outlet and extremely therapeutic in dealing with it. Anyway, this is my submission for the Video Game Show (8 Bit and Beyond). "Pixelated Princess Of Revitalizing Fungi" It's my version of Princess Peach as a One-Eyed Girl (1EG), a series i've been focusing on lately. I'll be posting more 1EG's in the future.. Hope you all enjoy!

WORKING ON A SHOW....

Here's a snippet of my 8 bit image...its in the works right now and I still have quite a bit to tackle.... Hopefully I can make it all come out good.

Wish me luck.

8-Bit & Beyond: Mushroom Recession

Here's a sneak peak at my piece for the 8-Bit & Beyond show, titled "Mushroom Recession". For this show, I wanted to create an image that reflected the current state of the economy, so I looked at games that had some sort of monetary system as a component of the interface. I also wanted to highlight the character's desperation, but do so in a way that was somewhat light hearted and humorous. Whenever I use an existing game as the basis for a piece I like to push it to the next level and ask absurd questions like "Where do those bottomless pits actually go to?" Mario was a perfect fit for this concept, and is also more widely known than some of the other game characters I could have chosen. Even though my work is inspired by games and my love of classic game imagery, I prefer it to be accessible to everyone, even if there are elements that only gamers would appreciate.
Prints can be purchased from my blog: http://judebuffum.wordpress.com/shop/

Mega Man and the Robot Masters & Dragon MAD*L

Here's my more complicated piece for the 8 Bit & Beyond show. It's a our old pal Mega Man surrounded by the original 6 robot masters from his first game. I always thought the original 6 some of the best villain characters, especially Gutsman. It's a 11"x14" canvas surrounded by 6 4"x4" canvases. Mega Man is done in spray paint with 5 stencils, and the robot masters are all each one color stencils.

This is a MAD*L custom I've been working on for a little while. I wanted to try something with a little more detail, so I used paint markers for the face using the same stencil techniques I'd been using. I also wanted to play around more w/ adding elements, so I added the beard made out of craft foam and the hair. You can see the added parts better from the side view. I got the toy off eBay as a crappily done custom for real cheap. While stripping the paint off it I noticed the proportions were off, so I guess it was one of the earlier versions of the toy. This is probably one of my favorite customs I've done.

Dragon's Lair Poster

Another month, another awesome group theme from The Autumn society of Philadelphia! For August's "8-bit and beyond" show, I chose to illustrate my take on Dragon's Lair, the most gorgeous (and simultaneously frustrating) game of the 1980's. I had a chance to work out the sketches for this piece on my trip to LA last week, and i think the finished piece has retained some of that sun drenched 80's west coast vibe.

Looks that kill

It's not what you say, it's how you say it

I just finished updating my website. This image is a favorite of mine out of the new pieces created. It's pretty self explanatory. This is one of the images I am screen printing into an accordian fold book.

Every once in a while I get a hankerin' to draw monsters duking it out...so here we go.
-Eamon

a few new things

first up is a movie promo i did for the lawn chair drive-in for the wizard of oz synched with pink floyd's dark side of the moon, titled dark side of the rainbow. its playing later this summer and will be featured on a giant poster with all the other movies drawn by members of the philly comix jam. there will also be a 'meet and greet' signing of said poster later this august. i'll keep you posted as to when all of that is going down

next are 2 gag comics i submitted to the citypapers 'comics' issue. my 2 from last year got rejected along with a ton of other great comics by local artists so i won't be surprised if these get rejected as well

Childhood Heroes! - Supa Saiyajin Son Goku

Here's another Dragonball character. I think I will do one more character for this series and then focus on other sets of 3. Some other japanese cartoons I plan on paying tribute to are: Captain Tsubasa, Saint Seiya, Astro Boy, Tetsujin 28, and Cyborg 009. There's also the amazing Cowboy Bebop, but I'm saving that one for a different series. For now, hope you like this guy, Super Saiyajin Son Goku! I've always liked this version of Goku, all powered, beaten up, but still ready to fight to the end! KA-ME-HA-ME-HAaaAAaaA!!!

Doctor Octoroc Creating Set For 8-Bit & Beyond

Hello everyone! I'm putting together a music setlist for the 8-Bit & Beyond art show at Brave New Worlds Comics and I wanted to get some ideas from all of you lovely people!

I'm planning on playing a mix of originals I've arranged, other artists that utilize chip-tunes and music straight from games in a mix. What I need to know is if there are any artists, games or particular tracks that you want to hear! Obviously, everyone expects to hear the Super Mario Bros. theme, or the overworld music from The Legend of Zelda, but there are plenty of obscure games I can throw into the mix and I'd like to officially open the floor for suggestions!

I may also have a request sheet at the show so people can circle games or tracks they'd like to hear. I may also do a raffle for CD's, but I'm not sure of my limitations at this point...

For any of the Genesis fans (curse you!), I've compiled a Sonic The Hedgehog medley...it's superdope.

The Jacko Decades

Its been a month already since Michael Jackson died.
(I dont know where time goes)
So since I didn't do sh-shommon-ah!-it for the week he died.
i waited a month so that the crazyness could bear down.

So here's Jackson on his Black to White phases
his 3 big decades, no more to say.

wee-hee-hee!

your opinions

Hey everybody, I know i just posted something the other day but I could use your opinions on this one... the deadline for this isnt for a few days so this isn't urgent and I havnt heard what the art director things yet But I was wondering what you guys make of the little ink drip inside the silhouette. The piece is about abuse in lezbian couples so the idea was it was going to be a bloody nose. I think it works with and without it but I also have heard that people cant tell what it is... so your input would be helpful. Thanks everybody!

Hihi

Well it's been a little since my last post on here.
Here is a fun idea a little while ago. I bought this two frame
thing and wanted to put two characters next to each other.
I also wanted to try out these stamps I got with the whole alphabet
pretty great alright. The quality isn't the best but its a picture so...

O well
Hope you like

'We're Gonna Need a Bigger Rucksack' Final

Maybe I'll tweak it some more, but it's basically done! My entry for ASOP's 8-Bit and Beyond Video Games Art show. Link's all ready to trek around Hyrule with literally everything except the kitchen sink!

laser-breathing dragons

Here's the (almost) finished drawing for my contribution to the 8-Bit show. Totally excited and nerding-out about this piece and it feels like the first painting I've worked on in ages that I really dig. Still have to work out the pistol (gun? blaster?!) and the hand up front, and can't wait to attack this thing with some color! Would love to hear some input from you folks.

ps - everything looks super awesome!! thanks to y'all for keeping me motivated.

A formidable OPPONENT....

This is to warm up for the show in a few weeks...It's not my show piece.....I am struggling to get time to work on that...
In the meantime I've sent my friend.
METAL SLIME
The little jerks just smiled at you while only taking one hit point per attack....
Those metal Bastards...

Hope you dig...

Mario the plumber

I finally got off my ass and did my 8bit piece.... I have to say I enjoy doing all these shows with you guys. Have a good one

Mallows @ SDCC

I was recently asked to do some customs on this new platform toy by Shocker Toys called Mallows. These 2 designs will be on display at the Shocker Toys booth (#3849) @ San Diego Comic Con, and at an after party hosted by Shocker. The figure is made from plastic, not vinyl, but has 10 points of articulation. It's pretty cool, hope to see some good things coming from it. The zombie looking one is called "Hipster Holocaust," and was mainly done in spray paint, with some detail drown in w/ markers. The tattooed one is named "Just Say No," and all the details were drawn in w/ markers. I wanted to texture on him to resemble old flash sheets at a tattoo shop.
I also designed/illustrated this logo to be used on a custom toy set for October Toys only available at SDCC. This will be on the chase figure, and the button set. You can pick up your Evil Gwin @ the October Toys booth (#4838).
