More randomness

Just a bit of fun, a bear-spirit character design based a little off a totem pole. Turned out more Disney then I had wanted, but I'm generally pleased with the damn feet, which I researched and drew a thousand different ways. And it was nice to get into this little dude, and get closer to the character. yadda yadda

J-Popping

Howdy all. This is just a little sketch-thought-process- fun to reveal a little bit of the subject matter of my piece for the J-Pop Culture. Just a quick sketch, and a horrible photograph since I've got a caput scanner. The final piece, as you'll see when I post it, will be digital.

We'll go to very distant lands

Ehhhh...

textures. Again. finished this a tiny bit ago, fixed it with some touchups today. Not very happy with the RGB for web conversion, seemed to gray it down a bit more than I like.

I enjoy Finn's face. YES.

My ADVENTURE TIME tribute.
*skulks back into the shadows* woosh.

Silica excert tease magic.

Scene2 Shot 4 from Vanessa Buldowski on Vimeo.

Sooo I like to tease people instead of giving them the whole magilla.

Actually, my film still isn't quite finished to the point I want it to be, so I don't like the idea of uploading an unfinished piece to the world before its done. At least with film, anyway.

Sorry for the delay, and then this less than exciting post. o.O;

Charcoal, inkwash, colored pencil, and pastels are used throughout the film.

Perhaps I'll make a teaser-trailer to post....

Style Frames

Hey everybody. Just thought I'd drop some of my style frames/ stills from my film up here. I'll be posting a little more frequently again, like I promised a couple weeks back. Some of the work will be up here, but even more should be on my blog.

Keep being awesome, you guys.

Still lurking in the background.

Well it's been a while, folks. Just a small update on what I've been up to recently:
Calarts, film making, all nighters, and loving the work that's being posted. More and more great work. So much that once again, I've been inspired and am stepping out of my shell to place some work up here (then run back into the darkness.). It's sort of nice being the quiet one on the sidelines, watching everyone grow in their respective art-forms.

Here are a few background samples from my upcoming film. I'll be getting more into the nitty-gritty of the film now, so expect to see some more frequent updates. If you're interested, you can also check out my blog at www.vanessabuldowski.com . Keep up the awesome, you guys. I'll be sitting back, trying to soak it all in. =).

10 seconds of fun

10 Seconds of Fun from Vanessa Buldowski on Vimeo.

A little fun I had for a class assignment for MFA First Year Shorts class. Which came first, the animation or the sound? In this case sound. Fun times. Done in two days (roughly). Comments mightly welcome

Fox Jump Pan Test

This here is something I've been working on yesterday and today to get my out of a funk. Got overexcited with the background, made it look too nice so the character doesn't fit too well. Still working hard. Check out my blog to see the rough animation.

Original 5 key frames accredited to pg 83 of Eric Goldberg's "Character Animation Crash Course" if you are interested. this all started after wanting to animate some-one else's timing charts, not my own.

Doo-diddly.

Working on my inking skills. Right now I'm mainly using a Winsor&Newton Sable 3 Watercolor brush to get the job done. This here is the main character of the comic book I have in the works right now. I need to get better inking, and with my black/white compositions, so I've been trying to practice non stop. Turning the form in ink is exciting, and piquing my interest right now. Blah blah blah.

Alex Toth is a comic-book god. And Mike Mignola. The end.

It's "Boff" and its "Wham" unnerstan?

Hey guys! Here's a snap of piece for the Golden Age show before I wrapped it up and mailed it out. I thought about taking a personal twist on one of these great oldies, but I couldn't bring myself to it. So, I decide on creating a reproduction still of Popeye's first ever animation "Popeye the Sailor". I used black india ink on acetate, to capture the frame just like they did in the good old days. Wish I had some cel paint, but I had to settle for good old acrylic, which did the job decently.

Unfortunately, I wont be able to make the show, because I live out of town and I am what we call "the poors". I really hope everyone has a GREAT time!

Golden Age References

Hey there folks! I've been doings loads of research for my piece for the upcoming Golden Age show.... Ah heck, I've mostly been researching this stuff more for the awesome finds than anything! There is so many amazing treasures out there on the internet! Being the art and especially animation and film geek that I am, I couldn't hold back my excitement at all the goodies I've been finding on Micheal Sporn's blog (or as he says "splog").

Here's his link! Click here !

If you don't know about Micheal Sporn, he is one of the leading men in the field, creating such emotional films like "Whitewash" and "Champagner" (forgive me if I'm spelling any of these wrong) He's also the top guy in creating the "Animation Show of Shows" featuring the current year's best festival films.

A few more links from me, with love.

AfterLife is now Online! (for a short while)

Okay folks! Here is the promised film! It should work, sound and video are all there ... after trying way too many times.

For all of you who don't know- this is my senior thesis film for UARTS, completed on May 14. "completed" I should say. There are some mistakes, continuity errors, and etc that are in the process of being resolved so I can feel a mite bit better about the peice.

The film was hand done-"traditional" 2D- on 1's and 2's mostly, so roughly 5k is drawings i'll say. This piece was an awesome learning experience.

Comments, critiques, mudslinging welcome =P har har har.

Hello all!

I'm FINALLY DONE WITH MY FILM.(sort of) I'll be posting the film online for a very short time, probably a week, before I take it down again. I cannot keep it online, as it is against many festival's rules.

There are some mistakes that I want to fix, so that's why its not completely done. BUT HUZZAH.

Also, just to be in the sharing mood, both Pixar and Disney have my stamp of approval in their upcoming films, UP and The Princess and the Frog. Personally, I think UP will be the more successful, however the old tagteam directors Ron Musker and John Clements are on tPatF, so be excited, fellow-movie-goers! They have yet to fail us!! If you are interested in some buzz on the soon-to-be-released "UP", look no farther than here>>

Joker Sketch

Hey all.

I had a few different sketches lying around for the joker show for a while, and I finally decided upon the style I wanted to go with, so taaaaadaaa. This is basically the "polished" sketch. The drawings only about 2x3 and the finished piece I'm thinking will either be 8 x 10 or 11x14. At the moment I really dont know if I should go for just an ink drawing colored digitally, or to water color it. Any suggestions would be helpful.

News

WOAH. THE MONTHS ARE FLYING BY.

Just giving a shout out and an update to all. I've been a bit down-hearted about all the wonderful work that has been put up here, while I sit on the sidelines making my film. BUT REST AT EASE. I will most certainly post my film when it is completed.

In the meanwhile, I just wanted to share some news about me, for any who are interested in hearing. =)

Firstly, I got a very short film/ character study I finished back in December into the Philadelphia Cinefest (previously Philadelphia Film Festival) so that's a little bit of a YAY! factor.

It'll be playing in the program titled "...Even Jesus Had an Accountant".... which to be honest I find slightly... interesting? I'd be more than honored if any of you happen to check it out and give me some feedback! The Festival runs from march 29th to April 6th. Not sure what that program title means, but hell! I'm just surprised this thing got in! Certainly gives a girl a little confidence.

Speaking of confidence...

Yes indeed. That goofball is me, with a pencil-lead covered thumb, celebrating my MFA acceptance letter into CalArts. Do I have the monies to go? Hell no.

Where there's a will, there's a way. =)

Also, sorry for the long boring post celebrating my news, but hey. I figured if there is one bunch of people I'd want to tell it to, it's definately you guys. <3

Spaceship Concepts

Just some spaceship concept design for a friend's senior film. Rough sketches made "presentable" in photoshop. (aka bad photoshop quick-fixes)

Saturday, January 10, 2009

Hey guys! I just wanted to say, again, how it is always such a pleasure to come onto this blog and not only look at all the wonderful, indivualistic pieces you put up here- But to see the energy you guys really have for your art. So far- you guys are making it an awesome new year, and 2008 was more than amazing. KEEP POSTING.

Different note- here's a sketch I had a friend scan for me two days ago and just recieved. So- I am sharing. It's not really for anything, but I've been wanting to post for quite a while now. Having no scanner = good times.
