Kandy Coated Kackles: 13 Mixtapes for Halloween!

So I know its a bit late for Halloween (my absent minded-ness forgot to post on here) so sorry about this but I want to share what I was doing for the last 13 days of October. Each day I posted one Halloween mix tape with cover art by me! So that means 13 mix tapes chock full of crazy, spooky, kooky, rockin, jammin' music for Halloween that go beyond Monster Mash and the Ghost Busters theme! I've been collecting this kind of music for about 7 years and I finally felt it was time to share my collection with everyone. Even though Halloween has passed, I hope these mixes get ya excited for it next year! And keep an eye out next October for volume 14. Download them here and check the track listings over at my blog! Enjoy and happy haunts!

It's Strange. It's Kooky. It's Even a bit Spooky.

October is already well upon us and as the Fall chill begins to take hold, all of the ghouls are coming out to play... including one peculiarly blue-haired, hell-raising fiend: Strange Kid! That's right, Strange Kids Club is proud to announce the special Halloween Edition of its Strange Kid Comix Magazine which features work by some of our very own fellow Autumn Society members.

Sporting a spooktacular cover by monster maker extraordinaire David Hartman this issue continues SK’s tradition of "combining immature, gross out humor with a crazy love for pop culture parody" with brand new comics by creators Aaron Klopp, Brian Fyffe, Christine Larsen, Craig Collins, Keith Allen, Glen Brogan, German Orozco, Sean K. Dove, Keith Allen, Neil Camera, Smo, Beans and Bueller and Zach Bellissimo.

It even includes two, extra special cut-out Monster Masks by David Hartman and Keith Allen for spine-tingling Halloweenie fun (not to mention a few other treats). To get a sneak peek or grab yours today, check out the official Strange Kid Shop.

[AS Exclusive] Ain't Afraid of No Ghosts: Interview w/ "Dapper" Dan Schoening

His style is among the most recognizable in the online illustration community today, especially when it comes to depicting a quartet of ghost-busting bad-*sses and their supporting cast of ghouls, spooks, and fiends. His name is Dan Schoening or, as you might better know him online, Dapper Dan and he's got his sights set on this particular fanboy's dream assignment.

As is turns out, Schoening's love of nostalgia extends much further than GB. In fact, he's also pretty keen on Dragon's Lair, The Six Million Dollar Man, and The Great American Hero. Along with AS member, Christine Larsen, his work was recently featured in Ape Entertainment's Kung Fu Panda: The Art of Balance and he's just signed on with IDW for an ongoing Ghostbusters comic book gig. Without further ado, let's get this very first AS Exclusive Interview started!

Can you tell us about Dragon's Lair-- specifically what role it played in your decision to became an illustrator?

I think with Dragon's Lair, and most of Don Bluth's early work, I found the character designs very engaging and expressive, from the Giddy Goons to Singe. Dirk the Daring never speaks, but the acting says it all. It's really a great example of letting the actions speak louder than words. I think even now I can see little bits of that style (Bluth Animation) in mine.

Have you begun to pass any of this love for cartoons and comics onto your daughter?

YES! I think it's only natural to share what you love with the ones you love. She loves to color, and is way above and beyond where I was at 6.

As many of you heard yesterday, the Strange Kid Anthology is well on its way to becoming the clubhouse's biggest project to date thanks to the efforts of over 20 talented artists, including members of this very Society (thanks Chogrin!).

Today, I'm happy to reveal for the first time here the final cover artwork for the anthology (without the logo) by Brent Engstrom. Featured artists: Brent Engstrom, Jon David Guerra, Jase Harper, German Orozco, Drew Rausch/Jocelyn Gajeway, Glen Brogan, Matthew Allison, Mukpuddy, Chogrin, Mike Geiger, Drazen Kozjan, Elliott McHugh, Vanessa Buldowski, Keith Zoo, Jim Pluk, Dave Perillo, Bobby O’Herlihy, Malachi Ward, Carlos Araujo, Jimmy Giegerich, Raymond Chase, Miguel Manzur, Eric Gute, Sasa Kohler, Jake Armstrong, and Dragan Kovačević.

Strange Kid Comics

That's right! I will be doing a comic strip for the Strange Kids Club. I was really excited to create a comic for the anthology but this should prove to be even cooler. This St. Patrick's Day strip is the first one, so SKC proprietor Rondal Scott and I will be getting a feel for the project as we go along.

You can see the official post here on the Strange Kids Club website, and you can pre-order the upcoming anthology here. I know it features the work of quite a few Autumn Society members so I'm really excited to check it out.
