"Space Hotel" Album Cover

Hello everybody!

It's been a long time since my last post...!  (Well... I was waiting to have an artwork interesting enough to show here in the Autumn Society blog...)

Today I have a work that I would like to share you you guys: This is the cover I did for an indie rock Brazilian band named Hotelo... The album will be available on November 29th and in its cover you will see this "Space Hotel" created by me. Actually, the artwork is a wraparound cover... In the front you see only a small fraction of the whole scene... Bellow, the complete picture:

I hope you guys liket it... There is more info at blog.silbachstation.com if you want to take a closer look  to each character in this space opera...!

Cheers from Brazil!

Mr. Tambourine Man

Hello everybody! Long time since I last posted here... Although I have no turtle to show (snif!) I would like to share this little illo of mine...

Mr. Tambourine Man, my take on the Danse Macabre (Dance of Death), a popular theme in the Middle Ages... The Danse Macabre is about Death summoning all kinds of people - pope, king, peasant - to dance along to the grave. The idea was "life is short and Death unites us all"... Spooky, but true...

Anyway, as the title of the illustration suggests, Bob Dylan's song - Mr. Tambourine Man - was the main inspiration here... I love the lyrics and while I'm aware of the speculation about its meaning I always thought that the Tambourine Man was Death since when I heard the song for the first time. I wonder why...

And if you dig this medieval Mr. Tambourine man... Good folks at Urban Arts made it available as a gorgeous giclee print! (If you are interested in purchasing a print, please send me a e-mail so I can help you... Urban Arts doesn't have a web site in English yet!)

Cheers from Brazil!

Hello everybody!

I would like to share a good news with you guys... My illustration "Rampage" was chosen to be part of the American Illustration 29! I'm very happy to be part of it...!

Inspired by the mood of old sci-fi comic book adventures and initially created for self-promotion, Rampage was so popular that I decided to make it available as a high quality, Giclee print (18,7" x 24,6").

People who are outside Brazil and are interested in buying a Rampage print, please send me a message: carlos[at]silbachstation[dot]com

Fun Fun Fun

It's been a few weeks since I also became known as "Sofia's Dad", but being a father of a baby-girl is already showing it's influence on my work... "Fun Fun Fun" is part of  my Bird-Bikes Series and features a lot of, shall we say, "girlie" colors...

Yellow Gentleman

Hello everybody!

There is a new illustration in my portfolio: An elegant Yellow Gentleman riding his mechanical bird-bike.

In some countries in Africa people ride on the back of ostriches, in the same way as horses. It seems a cool and interesting way to go around and inspired me to create this image. As carriages gave way to modern automobiles, the ostriches could be replaced by those "bird-bikes"....

Thor + Odin + Loki

Hello everybody!

Here is a triptych with the Norse Gods: Thor, Odin and Loki. I always wanted to draw those three...

Thor, the god of thunder. There are many possibilities to depict Thor but it was important to include his three most important possessions: Jarngreipr (the Iron Gloves), Megingjord (the Power-Belt) and - of course! - the mighty hammer Mjollnir. Here, Thor is wearing a full wedding dress (with bridal head-dress) because it is from a scene of the "Theft of Mjollnir" tale. This is the moment when Thor recovers his hammer and tears his disguise revealing his true identity to Thrymr, the King of Giants. After that he gladly proceed to smash Thrymr's skull. And after that he killed Thrymr's sister. Oh, and he also destroyed Thrymr's soldiers. In fact, he killed everyone attending the wedding...

Odin - with his pair of ravens Huginn and Munnin - disguised as the "Wanderer" with long beard, hat and staff. I made the staff to look more like Odin's spear - Gungnir - and since Odin is related to the writing form (he discovered the runes) I thought it would be interesting to make the spear tip to look like a pointed nib.

Loki was... well... the trickiest to portrait. He has an interesting scarred lips (Loki had his lips stitched up once). Since he is an "outsider", always creating problems and provoking the other asgardian gods, I choose to put him in those strange clothes and in a totally non-dynamic pose (if compared with Odin and Thor). And the gesture of lifting his tunic and pissing on the floor, as if he's trying to ruin the "picture". He is a trickster, after all. Here you can see the "censored" version :0)

Yar's Revenge: Preview

Hello everyone! Here is the preview of my piece for the "8-bit And Beyond" show. It was inspired by the old... I mean... classic game: Yar's Revenge! It's was a game originally developed for the Atari 2600 but it was remade for the Game Boy Color in 1999... I guess you can say it's an 8 bit game, right?

Bellow you can see a small detail of my piece, the Yar itself:

As I said to Gamervision.com: I always thought that the Yar was some kind of mechanic housefly (because of that illustration on the cover of the Atari 2600 version) so I went with this concept. I also was inspired by those school assignments where you have to pin and label an insect inside a box.

I hope you like it! I'm sure "8-bit & Beyond" will be awesome!

Fantomah: Mystery Woman of the Jungle for the Golden Age Show

Hello! This is my entry for the Golden Age Show: It's my take on "Fantomah: Mystery Woman of the Jungle" created by Fletcher Hanks (under the pseudonym "Barclay Flagg") in 1940. She is considered to be the first female super-hero. She is one of my favorite comic book characters from the Golden Age of Comics because she is so strange and has this primal haunting feel about her.

Thank you for inviting me! I'm thrilled to contribute to this beautiful project!

Autumn Society's 80s Pop Show in Brazil!!!!

The amazing Brazilian Illustrator Carlos Araujo just e-mailed me that the popular Brazilian website "Universo HQ" has written a nice write up on our 80s Pop Show!

And here is a quick translation by Carlos:

"Thundercats, Ninja Turtles, Uncle Scrooge (Ducktales) and other characters from comics, animation, games are the stars of an exhibition of paintings and drawings of the Autumn Society, a group of artists from the United States.
The exhibition debut today in Philadelphia.
Those outside U.S. can visit the blog of AS and take a look at some of the works where the artists lend their personal views on some of the icons that marked the childhood or adolescence of many fans."

Thanks again to Carlos Araujo, please check out his illustration work and his latest "Scifi Extravaganza" on his website below:
