"Down at the Barcade..."

This is my submission to Gallery 1988's "Old School Video Game Art Show." I decided to try and show what video game characters might do after a long hard day of fighting off a gorilla, chasing after a hungry yellow sphere, our endlessly pouring beers for thirsty customers (bartenders are never off-duty...). This was done using Micron ink pens and Prismacolor markers. The original piece and a very small edition of prints will be available at the show, and on the gallery's website the day after the show.

Hey all,

I just wanted to let you know that I've got another design gracing a shirt at Teefury.com, coming this Monday, August 1st, for 24 hrs. only. This time, I took my inspiration from the closing scene of "Back to the Future", as Doc Brown delivers the eloquent line "Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads..."

"Viddy well, me bruvvers..."

This is my submission for this weekend's Crazy 4 Cult 5 at Gallery 1988: Melrose, taking place this Friday, July 8th. I was inspired by Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange", utilizing familiar items and phrases from the film, and incorporating them into a tattoo inspired design. I hope you find it to be "real horrorshow"...

"Deja Vu" or "Great Minds..."? You decide...

If you've seen Kali Meadows' work below, this piece may seem familiar to you. As they say "Great minds think alike", I'm gonna have to agree, as it seems that Kali and I had a very similar idea. I hope you all enjoy my rendition as much as I enjoyed Kali's poster for the "Enchantment Under the Sea" dance.

"Is This Thing On?" Show at Gallery 1988 tonight (1/7)!

Hey all,

Thought I'd take a moment to let you all know about tonight's show at Gallery 1988: Melrose entitled "IS THIS THING ON?

1OO artists take aim at funny people" showcasing art paying tribute to stand-up comedians for the past 4 decades or so... Having grown up in the 70's and 80's, Cheech and Chong were a big part of my formative years. When I saw that no other artists had scooped them up for this show, I knew that I had to... If you're in the L.A. area with nothing to do tonight (1/7), stop on in and check out a lot of great work!

Best,

First solo show! Scott Derby: Illustrations, August 6th at Primer Gallery

Hello all,

It has been a while since I've posted here, but I wanted to let everyone know that I will be having my first solo show of work on Friday, August 6th, 6-9 pm, at the Primer Microgallery in Hatboro, PA as part of Hatboro's "First Friday" event. It will be a collection of both older and newer work, originals and prints, most of which will be available for sale.

It's a great location, and I am honored to have been invited to show my work at this small, but very hip, design firm/microgallery.
Food and drink will be served, so if you're in the area, come on out and say hello.

For more details, check out Primer at http://Primerinc.com

The above piece, done specifically for this show, is basically a self-portrait, circa 1986 or '87, illustrating how music, primarily the punk genre, blew my mind and changed my life... I wanted to show some of my favorite bands and some of the albums that I first discovered when this amazing music form reached out from behind shitty commercial radio and arena rock to grab me by the nut sack. I guess I can call this "Portrait of the artist as a young punk"...

3G show piece by Scott Derby

Hey all,

Since everyone seems to be starting to post their 3G pieces for the show at Gallery 1988 on September 3rd, I figured I throw my hat (or derby?) into the ring.
I decided to go with a tattoo flash theme to all 3 of my pieces, with the first one being my Gremlin's piece. Based on the old school tattoo idea of "Man's Ruin" which usually shows various items of temptation such as liquor, dice, playing cards, women of ill repute, etc. I decided to showcase items from the 3 rules of caring for a gremlin or "Mogwai"; 1) No bright light; 2) Never get them wet; and 3) Never EVER feed them after midnight.... Hope you enjoy!

Adventure Time tribute art

Howdy all,
Here's my take on the characters from Adventure Time with Finn and Jake. My inspiration (and models) for this piece are my son, whose name is actually Finn, and my pug, Meatball, who served as a stand-in for Jake. I hope you like it...
